Hello UU Folks,
On Sunday, April 23rd at 2 pm EDT, we will meet on Zoom for a Talk Soup to discuss and vote on our congregation adopting the proposed UU 8th Principle, which is:
“We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”
If you'd like some context about the UU's 8th Principle, we invite you to re-watch Rev. Kate's Sermon from the Rev Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday this year at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoN2-6DDhBw
There is also a website at https://www.8thprincipleuu.org which has resources and history to show the 8th Principle proposal developed.
We will also spend some time discussing the work of the UUA’s Article II Study Commission, which is in the process of revision by the UUA. Article II is the section of the UUA’s bylaws containing the UU Principals and Purposes. Most of us are familiar with the UU Principles because we cite them in our services and refer to them in various ways. The Purposes are less well known, but broadly speaking, the Purposes represent the UUA’s “charge,” discussing what the UUA is meant to do and be and how both the UUA and we as individuals and congregations put our theology into practice to share our values with the world.
